Your First Injectables Appointment

07/19/2021

Facial rejuvenation takes many forms. At Revive Aesthetics, our injectable skin and hair treatments like Botox®, Jeuveau®, and Dysport® can ensure you look and feel wonderful, helping to reduce or even eliminate wrinkles and fine lines. If you’ve ever wondered whether Cedar Rapids Botox and injectables were right for you, we can help!

Know Yourself
There are a few things to bear in mind before you even pick up the phone for a skincare consultation with Revive Aesthetics. The first of these is that injectables aren’t for everyone. If you’re allergic to any of the injectables we use (Botox®, Dysport®, and Jeuveau®), consider a different approach to your skincare, like Celluma light-based therapy. You also should not use these treatments if you have a nerve or muscle disorder, a skin infection near the injection site, or any problems with swallowing or breathing. Be open and honest during your consultation so we can ensure you receive the best and most appropriate care.
Know Your Expectations
Botox in particular can seem like a miracle drug. It doesn’t just work on wrinkles, after all; it’s also been shown effective in treating everything from overactive bladder to chronic migraines and excess sweating. But as we’ve already seen, it has its limits. Talk to your provider so you aren’t disappointed by the results; sometimes it takes more than one treatment to achieve the desired result, and not everyone responds to treatment the same way. Everybody—and everybody—is unique.
Preparing for Your Visit
If you’ve had your consultation and come to the conclusion that an injectable regimen is right for you, there are some things you should do to prepare before each appointment.
Monitor Medications
Certain medications can interfere with blood flow, clotting, and healing. These include blood thinners like Warfarin, painkillers like aspirin and NSAIDs, and even certain vitamins like Vitamin E and Omega 3s. While their use is not advised within a week or two of your injection, you should talk to your doctor before changing the timing or dosage of your medications.
Be Mindful of Certain… Habits
Besides wreaking havoc on your skin, smoking and drinking both interfere with blood flow and healing and can contribute to bruising at the injection site, too. You should quit smoking on general principle, but we also suggest keeping your alcohol intake to a minimum, with no drinking within 48 hours of the procedure.
Cleanse Your Skin
Gently clean and dry your skin, especially around the treatment area. Forego makeup, moisturizers, and other skincare products on the day of treatment.
Remain Calm
A little pre-treatment apprehension is understandable since we can’t think of anyone who enjoys needles. So take some time to calm your nerves. We don’t suggest a mimosa with breakfast (see above), but calming music, deep breathing, and aromatherapy are all effective for easing those jitters.
Maintaining Healthy Skin
What you do after your first visit will lay the groundwork for future visits, and better well-being. It starts from the inside out. Getting plenty of sleep, eating right, hydrating properly, enjoying the sunshine (responsibly—use sunscreen), and exercising work wonders for mind, body, and spirit alike, so you won’t just look better. You’ll feel great, too!
