What is Celluma Light Therapy?

02/11/2021

It almost sounds too good to be true: using nothing more than LED lights to treat acne, eczema, psoriasis, alopecia, and even chronic pain seems a better fit for science fiction than skincare therapy. But Celluma light therapy, used alone or in conjunction with other Revive Aesthetics skincare products, works wonders. If you have questions about this FDA-cleared therapy, we have answers.

What Is Light Therapy?
Plants convert sunlight into energy through photosynthesis. Humans may not get our nourishment from sunlight and biochemical reactions, but we react to light, too. More than a hundred years ago, scientists began to study using light systematically. Over time, that research has yielded insight into the full spectrum of light and its potential for healing. At the same time, technological advances enable us to harness that power in a way that’s beneficial for a wide number of uses.
What Does Celluma Do?
If you’re looking for an alternative to cosmetic injectables, light therapy is appealing. Celluma doesn’t use the same broad spectrum of light you’d get from a light bulb, or from the sun. Instead, it’s using specific wavelengths of blue, red, and near-infrared light that promote circulation, tissue repair, collagen and elastin production, and healing, right down to the cellular level.
Is Celluma Light Therapy Safe?
Yes. Remember, it’s not broad-spectrum light, and not all light causes damage to our skin and cells. Ultraviolet (UV) light is the part of the spectrum that causes skin damage and can lead to skin cancer with prolonged or repeated exposure. Because that’s not the part of the spectrum that Celluma uses, it’s perfectly safe.
Do I Need Any Special Preparation?
Anything that blocks or deflects light will interfere with treatment. The light works best on bare skin. That means you may have to roll up a sleeve or pant leg, or loosen a collar on a shirt or blouse, for instance. It also means not wearing makeup or sunscreen to your session.
How Long Does the Session Last?
On average, about thirty minutes.
When Will I See Results?
Some patients see results on their first visit. More often, you’ll start to see visible results after your second visit.
What Does Celluma Light Therapy Feel Like?
Great question. During treatment, the most you’re likely to feel is a mild warming sensation. What you’re more likely to notice is how you feel afterward, since your skin tone will be improved and many of our clients report feeling rejuvenated by treatment.
